Laugh then Listen

Everyone likes to laugh at Sister Wendy. Some dismiss her because of their experience with nuns and rulers. Go ahead and laugh, then listen to her wisdom. If you like this section of the Moyer's interview with Sister Wendy, watch the others on you tube. (Search Sister Wendy and Moyers. ) The first sections tell of her early life, her desire to be a nun, and her discovery of art. This section is my favorite. She sums up how to get the most from viewing art and its value in self discovery.

James Turrell's Light Art

James Turrell - Goldstein Skyspace/Roden Crater Project from Rindermulch on Vimeo.

This is an excellent video on the volcano that James Turrell is turning into art. Take time to watch it.

Ron Mueck

You really have to see Ron Mueck's work in person. It is so life like, yet altered in scale, that it creates a surreal experience when first you see one of his sculptures.

Joseph Beuys

Joseph Beuys has had an enormous effect on comtemporary definitions of what is art and who are artists. A German Pilot shot down in WWII, he was saved by a group of native people by being wrapped in felt and fat- a treatment for burns that saved his life. After the War he dedicated his life to making art that challenges all of us to become more human. Check out one of his installations and listen to his thoughts on art.
